Our Italian Adventure with The Italian Hospitality Collection by Sarah Ewen
We started our journey at a dull and wet Gatwick flying with British Airways into Cagliari in the south of Sardinia to travel to our first port of call, the Chia Laguna resort. The journey from the airport took just under an hour with amazing scenery of the coastline, quaint villages, pine clad mountains and a large lagoon where you can see the flamingos that spend their summer on the Island. A real treat for a nature lover like me!
Chia Laguna resort is nestled on the coast surrounded by lush vegetation and bordered by a stunning beach with turquoise waters, the likes of which you would normally expect to find in a much more tropical destination. The complex has beautiful beach club restaurants with relaxing lounge areas and a big patio ideal for group dinners and receptions.
The resort itself is made up of three fantastic properties. In total the resort has 424 rooms split between these properties 2 of which are 5-star and one upscale 4-star. There are 11 restaurants, 8 bars, a central meeting point called the piazza that is ideal for open air dinners and events; it even has its own conference centre seating up to 900 theatre-style in the main plenary. Lots of flexible areas for groups and incentives. The resort is ideal for buyouts for groups where you can take exclusive use of the whole resort of one of two of the hotels but still take advantage of all the facilities the resort has to offer. Although open seasonally, the resort is happy to open outside of the normal season for any big group requests.
We stayed at the Conrad Chia Laguna, a 5-star luxury elegant hotel with Sardinian influence in its design and décor. The hotels spacious bedrooms have good size balconies to take in the tranquil scenery including its own lagoon where they too have flamingos in the summer months.
The Baia di Chia Laguna, a Curio hotel, has a completely different feel, villa type rooms nestled in the hill side with direct view to the sea, set in a tranquil environment surrounded by greenery. You feel like you are miles from anywhere when you sit on the balconies taking in the tranquil ocean and lagoon views but are still inside the resort with all the facilities at your disposal.
The hotel village, the largest of the three properties in the resort, is 4-star and as the name suggests, has that village feel; the rooms are arranged around the pools and resort area. As a 4-star property, this can be ideal for groups that may not have the budget for a 5-star, but still want the facilities and location that this complex has to offer.
